IMAP Email Hosting
What is IMAP Hosting?
Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) enables users to retrieve email included with their A2 Hosting account via their favorite desktop email software such as Outlook, Thunderbird and Eudora. IMAP is easy to configure and works by downloading the account's email from the server to the desktop email software. IMAP is a time saving solution because users will not have to log into their hosting account every time they need to access their email.
The advantage of IMAP mail is that the email remains on the server even after it has been downloaded. This is why IMAP is intended for email accounts accessed by more than one user or from multiple computers. This storage feature also makes IMAP an ideal solution for backing up email. The drawback is that the stored email can become a significant burden to an account's disk space.
A POP3 email configuration is a better solution for email accounts that will only be accessed by one user or for customers concerned about disk space usage.
A2 Hosting IMAP Email Support
Every A2 Hosting shared web hosting, reseller hosting, semi-dedicated hosting and dedicated hosting account includes IMAP email support. Users should log into their cPanel control panel and select the "Email Accounts" icon to find their IMAP settings information. Specific IMAP configuration information is located under "Configure Mail Client" for each of the account's email addresses.
IMAPS is also supported at A2 Hosting. IMAPS is IMAP but over an encrypted Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection. IMAPS ensures that your email account's username and password can not be viewed by others when transmitted from your computer. Most importantly, your transferred email cannot be viewed by unwanted parties. See our Mail Client Settings Knowledgebase article for more information on setting up your mail client software for use with IMAPS.
