SMTP Email Hosting
What is SMTP?
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is the standard protocol used for sending email over the internet. When an email is sent, it is passed among a number of email servers before it reaches its ultimate destination. SMTP is essentially the language that the email servers use to communicate and work with each other to ensure the email is delivered.
A2 Hosting SMTP Server Hosting
Each shared web hosting, reseller hosting, semi-dedicated hosting and dedicated hosting account at A2 Hosting includes SMTP email service. The SMTP mail server allows our customers to send messages via the email accounts included in their hosting packages.
A2 Hosting customers can use their SMTP settings in combination with POP3 or IMAP to send and receive email messages from desktop email software such as Outlook, Eudora or Thunderbird. This convenient feature allows users to bypass logging into their hosting account to read or send their email.
A2 Hosting also supports SMTPS. SMTPS is SMTP over Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). SMTPS provides an encrypted connection to prevent unwanted parties from reading the email that is transferred. See our Mail Client Settings Knowledgebase article for more information on setting up your mail client software to use SMTPS.
